Bagging two out of three medals in 2008 Olympics and four out of six Olympic medals in London, Haryana is indeed turning into the sports capital of India. No doubt, the Hooda Government has cultivated an efficient system to help and nurture the sports talent in the state.

Emphasizing the kind of support sportsmen get from the state government, Bronze medal winner wrestler, Yogeshwar Dutt says, “You see, everyone salutes a winner, rewards a winner. But the Haryana government has been backing us sportsmen even when we have lost. In 2008, I was disappointed with my performance but the state government supported me and in 2010, I won Gold in the Commonwealth Games and won the Bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. I got Rs. 25 lakhs in cash and the post of a Dy SP in police even after I lost. It gave me the motivation to do better.”

This highlights the level of dedication of the Hooda Government in improving the sports facilities and encouraging the sporting talent in Haryana. It is true that sports cannot prosper without strong and popular support. And Hooda government has left no stone unturned in encouraging sports such as badminton, boxing, wrestling and shooting, especially in a cricket-crazy nation like ours.

Deepender Singh Hooda has worked tirelessly towards improving the condition of other sports in Haryana. Be it Gagan Narang, the ace shooter, Saina Nehwal, the badminton champ or Sushil Kumar, the first back-to-back Indian Olympic medal winner, Haryana’s achievements in the field of sports are simply unbeatable.

“I am very proud of what they have achieved. I followed all the major events during the Olympics as far as I could. We have done what we could for these players and we will continue to provide them with the best of facilities and encouragement,” says Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda magnanimously brushing aside any credit for the performance of the sportsmen and sportswomen of Haryana.

The remarkable and extraordinary success story of Haryana in the field of sports makes one wonder, what if other states follow the foot-steps of the Hooda government? If that happens, India would definitely bag a whole lot of Gold, Silver and Bronze at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
